A strong Magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck in the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast of Mexico, rattling coastal areas, and sending vibrations all the way to Mexico City. The large quake was preceded by a smaller, Magnitude 4.1 fore-shock just 19 minutes earlier, 30 miles south-southwest of San Patricio.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was centered 102 km South-Southwest of San Patricio, Mexico at a shallow depth of only 10.2 km.
The force of the quake triggered an “Alert” in an offshore Ocean Tsunami Data Buoy operated by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) as seen on the map below:
NO TSUNAMI WAS GENERATED but the buoy instruments, located on the floor of the ocean, recorded the shockwave as shown below:
The Red Colored “spikes” are the earthquake. Here’s what the “event” looked like to the Buoy Sensors:
Again, NO TSUNAMI has been generated, but the graphics above, from a US government ocean data buoy, show the force of the quake, felt over 100 miles away on the ocean floor!
The real question that you have to ask yourself is: would you be prepared?
The second most important question is: are you prepared right now to survive such a catastrophe?
Let’s take a look at this infographic and find out!

Minutes before this large earthquake, reports came in about a Volcano beginning to erupt in Guatemala. Shortly after that volcano began erupting, this large earthquake took place hundreds of miles to the north. BOTH EVENTS are directly connected to the massive Pacific Tectonic Plate, which indicates the plate is on the move, and its direction is to the North, Northeast.
There is no way to tell in advance where an earthquake will strike, but in large part, there is a pattern to these events.
- The Volcano in Guatemala got squeezed into an eruption this morning.
- A Magnitude 6.2 earthquake then struck hundreds of miles north in Mexico.
It is not unreasonable to think that some earthquake event is heading farther north for the west coast of the USA!
Folks along the West coast are advised to be aware especially today and tomorrow, just in case.
Volcano Begins Erupting in Guatemala
The “Volcano of Fire” in Guatemala began erupting at 6:56 AM today. It is a moderate eruption so far.
